Virtual Reality: More Real than Virtual
Last month, our very own user experience (UX) expert, Shane Goodwin, brought virtual reality (VR) to the UX New Zealand conference in Wellington.
“It was great to see so many people experiencing VR at the same time, especially some for the first time.” says Shane.
His talk, Virtual Reality: More Real than Virtual, asks designers to think about designing for 3D immersive experiences, not just our current 2D screens.
“What you’re designing now will be in a VR space if it still exists in two years”.
“Anything for the web you’re working on now, if it’s still around in two years, people will be experiencing it in VR.”
Shane went on to explain that, although VR is a new technology, it’s not changing the basis of good UX design.
“The fundamental thing behind it all is the connection. People connecting with people. What we’re doing is the same thing. This is another technology to connect with people, just like phones were, and just like computers were.”
