Our work at Milaha.

Milaha is one of the largest maritime companies in the Middle East. Its diversified business portfolio includes ocean transport, offshore support, third-party logistics, and ancillary solutions. Doha - a provider of stevedoring services for mixed cargo and the region’s fastest growing port - is managed by Milaha. The company chose Jade Master Terminal TOS to manage Doha port’s escalating throughput. The new system helped to deliver a tenfold increase in productivity.

Modernize port management systems to cope with increasing cargo throughput.

At port Doha, Milaha managed a yearly mixed cargo throughput of 350,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) without a spreadsheet or report in sight. It was someone’s job to sight and identify containers in the yard. Milaha required software and systems to manage escalating cargo volumes. The country’s booming economy promised to keep stretching key infrastructure, like ports, even further.

The port’s operation was run on manual systems which managed throughput of 350,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) every year.

Three key objectives steered Milaha’s search for a world-class terminal operating system:

  1. Increase terminal capacity and performance by centralized berth planning
  2. Automate yard and vessel planning
  3. Equipment control

Jade Master Terminal TOS.

After evaluating a number of software solutions, Milaha settled on the Master Terminal TOS and the break-bulk/general cargo module. Systems flexibility, easy configuration, scalability, and technical support were key selection factors. Master Terminal effectively transitioned port management from paper-based processes to an online operation. Jade also trained Milaha super-users and employees to ease transition and acceptance.

Productivity increases tenfold.

Milaha’s newly streamlined port operations have delivered a tenfold increase in productivity. Tracking containers and break-bulk cargo has been systematized. The move has added new efficiencies at every step. For example, employees use hand-held computers at port entry and exit to capture data vital to processing and delivery.

Peter Hope, Vice President of port services at Milaha: "We have made huge gains over the manual approach. The system has also been embraced by all the stakeholders involved, including agents and Government. Productivity and yard utilization has increased tenfold."

Master Terminal TOS has put Milaha on a strong footing to compete with other ports in the Gulf region. Cargo throughput increased to 376,000 TEU in the first six months following the systems go-live.
